Spirit of Africa - Richard Grantham

Score and parts - £25.00

An exciting overture to the composer's suite 'African Odyssey', Spirit of Africa has a slow mysterious opening depicting not only the enigmatic nature of this great continent but also the sadness often associated with modern Africa. This mood does not last for long though, as the indomitable spirit of the African people is depicted by exciting, rhythmic music which is often climactic and always pulsating with energy!

Tallis' Lamentation - Thomas Tallis arranged by Richard Grantham

Score and parts available from Lake Music Publications (Netherlands)

www.lake-music.com

A musical essay on another beautiful melody by Thomas Tallis. A slow mysterious opening featuring plaintive solo voices leads to an exciting rhythmic statement of the melody. A stronger, more 'earthy' section lead by Trombones with florid interjections from Soprano, Solo Cornet and flugal culminates in a bright, optimistic close. Recorded in 2005 by Brass Band De Waldsang.

"The Thomas Tallis theme will need no introduction but don't let the deceiving label of "lamentation" prove off putting. This is a cracking five minute number that Grantham imbues with echoes of the Agincourt Song as used by William Walton in his film score for Henry V. It produces some great sounds from the band and gives the percussion section a work out that they clearly relish." (4barsrest)

The gorgeous song from the new hit show 'The Woman in White by the master of the modern musical. A compelling tale of love, betrayal and greed, The Woman in White is a stunning new musical. Walter Hartright’s life is changed forever after a chance encounter with a mysterious woman, dressed in white, desperate to reveal her chilling secret. When he takes up his position as drawing master to the beautiful Laura Fairlie and her half sister, Marion, he sees in Laura's face an eerie reflection of the forlorn creature he previously met.

Walter and Laura's feelings for each other are thwarted by her engagement to the sinister Sir Percival Glyde. What is the connection between Laura, Sir Percival and the woman in white? Is Sir Percival's friend Count Fosco, with his unusual taste for white mice and poison, really as charming and well-meaning as he seems. Can true love prevail?
